He killed the robbers, drank their blood, and threatened all of Tibet. When they realized the holy man had seen them, the robbers cut off his head also.īut the holy man put on the bull's head and assumed the terrible form of Yama. In the 11th month of the 49th year, robbers entered the cave with a stolen bull and cut off the bull's head. In legend, Yama was a holy man who believed he would realize enlightenment if he meditated in a cave for 50 years. Although we may be frightened of death, it is not evil just inevitable. He is a wrathful dharmapala, a creature devoted to protecting Buddhism and Buddhists. In spite of his appearance, Yama is not evil. The terrible face of Yama, who represents impermanence, peers over the top of the Wheel. The creature holding the Wheel of Life in his hooves is Yama, the wrathful dharmapala who is Lord of the Hell Realm. The Wrathful Dharmapala of Hell Yama, Lord of the Underworld, represents death and holds the wheel in his hooves. Traditionally, the outer wheel depicts a blind man or woman (representing ignorance) potters (formation) a monkey (consciousness) two men in a boat (mind and body) a house with six windows (the senses) an embracing couple (contact) an eye pierced by an arrow (sensation) a person drinking (thirst) a man gathering fruit (grasping) a couple making love (becoming) a woman giving birth (birth) and a man carrying a corpse (death). The outer circle of the Wheel (not shown in detail in this gallery) is the Paticca Samuppada, the Links of Dependent Origination. As you examine the parts of the wheel you might find yourself relating to some of it personally or recognizing people you know as Jealous Gods or Hell Beings or Hungry Ghosts. Many Buddhists understand the Wheel in an allegorical, not literal, way. The gallery also looks at the Buddha figures in the corners and at Yama, the fearsome creature holding the Wheel in his hooves. The main sections are the hub and the six "pie wedges" depicting the Six Realms. This gallery looks at different parts of the Wheel and explains what they mean. The Wheel of Life (called the Bhavachakra in Sanskrit) represents the cycle of birth and rebirth and existence in samsara. The detailed symbolism of the Wheel can be interpreted on many levels. The Wheel of Life is one of the most common subjects of Buddhist art. The gallery shows sections of the Wheel and explains them in more detail. From there, those who realize enlightenment find their way out of the Wheel to Nirvana. But liberation is possible only in the human realm. In each of the realms, the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara appears to show the way to liberation from the Wheel. The realms also can be viewed as situations in life or even personality types-hungry ghosts are addicts devas are privileged hell beings have anger issues. These realms can be understood as forms of existence, or states of mind, into which beings are born according to their karma. The six major sections represent the Six Realms. The rich iconography of the Wheel of Life can be interpreted on several levels.

If the interminable ads are too much for you, the Vuze Plus tier removes them and also adds unlimited DVDs burns of files (if people still do that), built-inĪntivirus, and the ability to preview files as they download. You can also send files to different target locations and search for torrents from inside the app. With Vuze it’s easier to pick parts from torrent files, such as a large audio file containing different songs. Vuze, which was previously known as Azureus, offers far more detail than qBittorrent and Transmission, but still has a good macOS-friendly interface. It’s a shame because these things aside it’s a cracking little app. If you keep an eye out during the installation you can click Decline, but this is still enough of an annoyance for us to drop Vuze all the way from the top of the list to the bottom. It’s not really malware, but it’s still a wealth of unwanted crud all over your Mac. Just like uTorrent used to, it’s been known to set Yahoo to your default search engine and install unwelcome extensions. If uTorrent has got back into our favour, But if you very rarely download torrents, but want a torrent client just in case, this is a good choice. We think Transmission takes the simplicity thing a little too far, and qBittorrent offers a wider range of features (such as in-app search). You can get more information on files but this opens in a separate window.Ĭontroversy a while back, when hackers managed to infect a release of Transmission with malware, but the company moved quickly to replace that version with one that removed the offending software and have remained vigilant ever since. It needs very little configuration and is designed to be as minimalist as possible, so files just open in a small window displaying a single upload bar. Transmission is an extremely light BitTorrent client with a good range of features. Transmission is the most Mac-like, with a gorgeous interface and Apple-like simplicity – not that Apple would ever make a BitTorrent app it won’t even allow them on the App Store. Once it’s found them it will begin downloading the file. This accepts the file and logs on to peer-to-peer networks to hunt for other people sharing the file. To download a torrent you must download first a torrent client. It has something of a bad reputation because of its association with file-sharing sites like The Pirate Bay, but the technology is often used to share less controversial large files, such as software updates, Linux installation distributions, and open-source or copyright-free programs, movies, music and other large files. BitTorrent is an efficient way to share large files across multiple computers. One person has to seed the whole of the file in the first place for other to share it. These parts are then shared until you have the whole of the file, at which point you can continue sharing the file (known as seeding). You download a small file, called a torrent, and this enables you to connect to other computers with the same file and download parts of it from each other. BitTorrent enables people to share large files with each other using a peer-to-peer network, which means they share parts of the file with each other, rather than downloading the whole file from a central location (such as iTunes). The torrent client then downloads a larger file from the internet using a process known as BitTorrent. Torrents are small files that you can download and open in a torrent client. You can either choose to listen to some of the radio stations which already come preset with the app, or you can insert your own radio URL and listen to it. If you are one, you can use it and decide it for yourself.Īpart from supporting video and audio playback, the app can also receive satellite radio to help you listen to the radio from right inside the app. However, I am not an audiophile so I cannot comment on that. The software claims to make use of its TrueTheater technology to enhance your audio listening experience. It supports a wide variety of audio files including MP3 music, DTS multi channel surround sound, AAC, AC3, WMA, and FLAC & ALAC lossless audio files. This means not only can you use this software to watch movies and TV-shows, but, it can also be used for playing your favourite music. When it comes to acting as an AirPlay Sender, the app allows you to send MP4, MOV, M4V, MP3, and AAC files among others to Apple TV 4 and AirPlay enabled speakers wirelessly.ĥKPlayer also supports audio files. You can even use your Apple Watch to do the same. It can receive streams from an iPhone, iPad or iPod which are running on iOS 10. What’s unique here is that not only it can act as an AirPlay Sender but also as a receiver. 5KPlayer comes with a built-in support for Apple’s AirPlay feature. If you own an iPhone or a Mac, you are going to love this feature. Needless to stay, you won’t be disappointed with this player when watching 5K content on your laptop or desktop. Other than that, the playback was smooth as possible. The only time I ever felt a hiccup when playing a 4K or 5K video was when I was using the rewind or the fast forward button. The video playback was smooth and without any stutter. In my few days of usage, the video player handled all the content I could throw at it. Well, let us take the most obvious feature out of our way, that is, the support for the 5K media playback content. With that point in mind, let us take a look at some of the key features of this software. If you got the compatible hardware, the software will allow you to make the most of it. However, you will have to remember that, you will also need a compatible hardware and display, to enjoy the content as it is supposed to. The software is available for both Mac and Windows and we are going to take a detailed look at its features and capabilities now.Īs you can deduce from its name, the media player focuses on its ability to play video content up to 5K with ease. Not only that, it also packs a ton of other features like support for radio and DVD playback, built-in Airplay sender/receiver, and support for various file formats, which will enhance the way we consume the video as well as the audio content on our laptops. The red reflection of a skull close behind me, with glinting eyes signalling an opportunity to dodge and enter slo-mo Who knows, maybe I'll even survive! At the most intense moment, when hope is thin, I lean hard into the game and push back. With the timer eating into my score, it's better to go down fighting than run out the clock. Hyper Demon forces me to fight against that. At the most intense moment, I focus on fleeing. All I can do then is run and dodge in the hope of surviving a few seconds longer. In Devil Daggers, there comes a point in a run where I, as a middling player (my best time is 283 seconds), know a run is lost. Hyper Demon wants you deep in the bone zone at all times. Power-ups and skillfull murder send the game into slow-motion too. You can also air-dash, glide, and slide to close distance. One irksome teleporting enemy can be baited into descending onto its little legs and chasing you. You can now follow the 'dagger jump' (look down and shoot to launch upwards, like a rocket jump) with a downward stomp which makes enemies more vulnerable to damage. A dodge move works like Bayonetta's Witch Time, offering a short burst of slow slo-mo if you hit space right when a nearby enemy's eyes glow. You're encouraged to get right up in the action with new abilities and opportunities. The faster you murder, the faster enemies spawn, the more difficult it becomes-but the greater your potential violence output. Lots of murder, and fast, fast enough to outpace the clock. In Hyper Demon, the timer works against you, your score ticking down with every passing millisecond (even down into negatives). In Devil Daggers, you're there to survive as long as possible, a timer serving as your score. In both, you dodge, shoot, grab gems to gain stronger attacks, and just try to record a good score. You'll die if even one touches you but luckily, your hand fires unholy knives. Bony pillars burp swarms of little skulls, skeletal snakes squirm and charge you before retreating into defensive coils, wyrms drift through the skies, greedy big beasties suck power-up gems towards their many maws, and so on. Hyper Demon has the same setup as our favourite game of 2016: you're standing atop a barren plane in a void where hovering skulls and other skeletal horrors will spawn to getcha, a broad range of beasties with different behaviours. And when the action picks up and the screen becomes a fisheye view of unfathomable violence navigated by sound and intuition more than sight, god! Screenshots can't capture it. Its many skulls have a crystalline makeover, glimmering like citrine and shattering the spectrum into rainbow highlights. I am delighted that the best-looking game of 2016 has been followed by the best-looking game of 2022. Here's the important thing to realise: the unearthly and incomprehensible violence you see in that trailer is genuinely what the game looks like to play. When I first saw Hyper Demon's trailer, I felt excitement, wonder, and fear. In Hyper Demon, a long and cautious run will likely score lower than a short burst of ultraviolence. Both first-person score attack shooters are dressed in similar beautiful cloaks of skulls and gurgling industrial soundscapes, but while Devil Daggers nudges you into cautious survival, Hyper Demon shoves you into aggression. The best way I can explain the difference between Devil Daggers and its surprise sequel is comparison to another pair of goth-o-ramas: Devil Daggers is Dark Souls to Hyper Demon's Bloodborne. The surprise Devil Daggers sequel is a punishing FPS but rewards perseverance with astonishing multicolour ultraviolence If you accomplish the main task, but crash on the way back to base, you still earn your cash and intel rewards. You have two basic objectives in your early missions: accomplish the primary task and return to base in one piece. If your crew members die, it's back to level 1 with a new recruit to replace them, and if your plane goes, there's no repairing it. Doing that gives you a better chance of surviving the tougher missions later on. It's much better to complete the easier missions so you can get your crew leveled up and take in some cash and intel points. You're given several missions to pick from at once, so which mission to choose first? However appealing the more challenging missions might seem, don't pick those just yet. Don't just rush in blindly, though, or Bomber Crew will punish you. So you've got your crew and plane all ready to go, and you're about to tackle some missions. Keep your crew as safe as possible, even if it means ditching your plane if a mission goes sour.Make sure your crew is able to perform an action beyond the basics like landing gear or opening bay doors, even if the game prompts you to choose the action. There are other less vital, but equally important, skills like the Engineer's Lean ability that helps you burn less fuel and the Gunner's Focus ability that makes dealing with enemy fighters easier. You can still have the option to perform an emergency landing without a leveled up pilot, but if your pilot doesn't know the skill, it's basically a death sentence for your crew and plane. If you encounter a problem or can't seem to put a fire out, this ability is truly a life saver. For example, a level 2 pilot learns the Emergency Landing ability. There are some very important ones that might influence success or failure. The game doesn't do a tremendously good job of informing you what these locked skills are, though, so when your crew levels up, you'll want to come back and pay special attention to the skills as they do unlock. Instead, it's where you check out any skills they might have learned and see when they unlock their secondary skills. The Training section is a bit of a misnomer, since you can't actually engage in additional activities to train your crew. Parachutes are vital in case you have to order everyone to jump, but it's good to equip your engineer with one anyway, so you can be sure he or she doesn't die if there's an accident while on the wing and they get blown off. They not only boost your plane's armor they give you a place to store parachutes too. However, it's a good idea to install equipment racks as well. But, when you do start raking in the rewards, it's best to upgrade your plane first because it's the first thing to get damaged in a firefight.īetter extinguishing systems are an absolute must, along with efficient turrets (though those can come later unless you are having a tough time in early air fights). You won't be getting any just for getting through training. Most of the good stuff is locked behind intel requirements, the second reward type you get for completing missions. Picking the Right Gearįor a little while, your access to equipment for your crew and plane is very limited. Thankfully, the flashiness of your plane doesn't attract more enemies to you. Your navigator and radio operator still need to be able to book it under pressure, for example, if they have to deliver ammunition to a turret at the other end of the plane. It's not just the more active crew members who need to move fast either. The last thing you want is a pokey engineer moseying along to put out an engine or wing fire or a gunner who can't make it to the turret fast enough. Speed determines how fast your crew member moves, which sounds really obvious, but its significance can't be overstated. Plus, a lot of the good equipment puts a dent in the speed stat. Armor and the ability to survive on land or at sea are important, but equipment upgrades later can improve all of those stats. In the early stages of the game, the main thing you're going to want to pay attention to when recruiting new crew members is speed. Yes and no, the buffs made her better in some parts while her pain points remain neglected. Let's evaluate how I feel about her now: Did the buffs make her stronger? Is she still the worst playable character in the game? Noah used to be THE WORST character in my eyes in terms of gameplay, which is a shame because she's the cutest fuckin thing in this entire game. The AoE buff does not change that in any significant way. well, it still hits a single enemy at a time in most cases anyway. Juliet's Sneer's speed has been significantly increased as well, alongside its AoE buff. It feels nice to use and chains pretty well into another string of normal attacks.Ĭaroline's Malice, Marauding Mandy, Amanda's Exile, and Robert's Revenge got very well-needed AoE buffs that makes them feel better to use. Her normal attacks are significantly faster. When she uses her skills, she becomes giant, with her skills having more AoE and range alongside it. The TL DR of this whole batch of changes is pretty much "Noah is BEEG." I kinda got carried away with this one, read at your own risk. Try to finish the main quest as fast as possible, doing the minimal amount of side quests to get you to the appropriate level before every boss fight. I wouldn't recommend going our route because you might end up tired like us. We might go back to finish the game eventually. It ends up being a bit of a chore if you wanted to explore everything and it got to the point where we dropped the game even thought there were only 3 more main quests left. However, the game suffers from a lack of variety - with dungeon and enemy design. The story is light-hearted with puns, and parodies here and there. Skills, weapons, and equipment are easy to level up by exploring dungeons and doing quests. You can either go for a magic or physical build. You can play as a cat or a dog with your friend.īut if you're playing on on online coop, your friend needs to grab a controller to play. Good co-op experience but it suffers from a lack of variety.
